PRESIDENTIAL SIGNED BOOKS

 

1SGB) Here is an extraordinarily rare First Edition of John Kennedy's book, "Profiles In Courage". Even rarer is that John Kennedy has signed and inscribed, as president, as follows. "To Peter Lawford. This is an early printing of the book. Always the best. Merry Christmas. John Kennedy December 24, 1961." This was a Christmas gift from John Kennedy to Peter Lawford. Lawford was his brother in law, married to JFK's sister Patricia. He and Lawford were also great friends. Lawford was actively involved in campaigning for JFK during his presidential campaign. He also frequently stayed with the Lawford's at their Malibu beach house. This is a one of a kind book in excellent condition. The book was published by Harper & Brothers in New York City Included with this item is a copy of my original photograph showing Peter Lawford with the Kennedy Family. The photo was taken on the occasion of JFK's presidential election win in 1960. I also have a First Edition of "Why England Slept" available which has been signed and dedicated to Peter Lawford by JFK. Also available are several other books from JFK's personal Library that he has signed, dedicated, and given to Peter Lawford. They were primarily given as birthday and Christmas gifts.

2SGB) Here is an extraordinarily rare First Edition of John Kennedy's book, "Why England Slept". Even rarer is that John Kennedy has signed and inscribed, as president, as follows. "To Peter Lawford. This is the First Edition you wanted. Your former countrymen were asleep, but so was the rest of the world. John Kennedy August 12, 1962". This was a birthday gift from John Kennedy to Peter Lawford. Lawford was his brother in law, married to JFK's sister Patricia. He and Lawford were also great friends. Lawford was actively involved in campaigning for JFK during his presidential campaign. He also frequently stayed with the Lawford's at their Malibu beach house. He spent a great deal of time there between his election and Inauguration as president. This is a one of a kind book in excellent condition. The book was published by Wilfred Funk, Inc in New York City in 1940. Included with this item is a copy of my original photograph showing Peter Lawford with the Kennedy Family. The photo was taken on the occasion of JFK's presidential election win in 1960. I also have a First Edition of "Profiles In Courage" available which has been signed and dedicated to Peter Lawford by JFK.  3SGB) Here is a book containing the original signatures of President and Mrs. Grover Cleveland and other Dignitaries. It is a leather bound First Edition printed in 1888 by the J. B. Lippincott Company in Philadelphia. It is the Program for the Banquet to Commemorate the Framing and Signing of the Constitution of the United States. The Banquet was given by the Learned Societies Of Philadelphia at the American Academy Of Music, on September 17, 1887 in Philadelphia. This is a beautiful book bound in top quality red leather by B. P. Putnam & Sons. The book contains many illustrations and Fine Engravings of historical Political, Legal, and Military Leaders of the United States. A Seating chart, Toasts, and the Menu are included. I have included a partial list of the Guests, who were the Political, Legal, and Military Leaders of the United States. Included is a Guest's Place Card, the back of which is signed by President Grover Cleveland, and his wife Wife Frances Cleveland. Mrs. Cleveland has dated her signature 23 May 1888. The Place Card also contains several other signatures of other Dignitaries who attended the Banquet. On the inside of the front cover is a beautiful full color Presidential Seal. On the opposite page is a list of signators who supported the Constitution. On the back cover is a copy of the Constitution. The book is in excellent condition, both inside and out. There is breakage on the spines of the book, more pronounced on the back. The covers are, however intact. All in all, this is a rare and magnificent book that is 119 years old. The gold stamped "Constitution" is on both the front and back covers.

4SGB) Here is a signed hard bound book by President Franklin Roosevelt entitled "Looking Forward". It is a compilation of articles written and speeches made before March of 1933. The book was published in 1933 by the John Day Company in New York. President Roosevelt has signed on the title page. The signature is strong and bold. The book is bound in blue with a gold stamped signature of President Roosevelt on the cover. It is in excellent shape.

8SGB) Here is the rarest of the books written by John Kennedy. It is "Profiles In Courage". This is a presentation copy to William Pauley. President Kennedy has personally signed. This is a beautiful blue leather custom bound limited Inaugural Edition of JFK's book. It was specially printed in 1961, so that JFK could personally give copies to family, friends, and major political supporters. It was printed by Harper & Brothers in New York City. It is a top quality book, with gold edged pages and a silk marker. There is a gold embossed Presidential Seal on the front cover. Very few of these copies were printed. This copy is in pristine condition. William Pauley was a powerful political figure in the FDR, Truman, and JFK eras. He was an very wealthy oil man, and held various positions in California Government. He was a major contributor to the Democratic Party, and was a Delegate at Large to the 1960 Democratic Convention. He was very much involved in seeing that JFK received his parties nomination at the Convention. He was then a driving force in JFK's presidential campaign. He was also a major figure in persuading FDR to replace Henry Wallace with Harry Truman in the 1944 election. He was a very close personal and political friend to JFK, who relied on his keen political skills in his pursuit of the presidency. Included with the book is a photograph of JFK William Pauley. The photo has also been signed by JFK.

 9SGB) Here is an extraordinarily rare presidentially signed document from President Kennedy's visit to Ireland. It is his Address to the Ruling Body of Ireland, the Joint Sitting of Dail Eireann and Seanad Eireann. The Address is contained in a hard bound book published by the Government Stationery Office in Dublin, Ireland. It is printed partially in Gaelic although the Kennedy Address and Welcome are in English. The Address was given on Friday 28 June 1963. President Kennedy has signed boldly. This occasion was a high point of the Kennedy presidency, as he traveled to the land of his ancestors. The book is in excellent condition with no tears or binding problems.

It is a First Edition and was published by Random House in 1964. It is in pristine condition, with watered silk inner linings. It is leather bound and has a hard sleeve. 13SGB) President LBJ Hand Signed Book. Here is a wonderful book about President Lyndon Johnson and the Texas Hill Country that he so loved. It has great information and wonderful illustrations. It is a First Edition by Jack Maguire with illustrations by Mac Tatchell. It was published in 1964 by the Alcalde Press in Austin, Texas. It is beautifully bound in red leather and is in pristine condition. President Johnson has signed boldly. T his item comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. 15SGB) Here is a copy of "A more beautiful America", excepts from speeches by President Johnson. It was published in 1965 and boldly signed by President Johnson. It comes in a matching hard slip cover and is in pristine condition. Enclosed in a pocket inside the back cover is a copy of a February 8, 1965 speech to Congress on Natural Beauty by President Johnson. This is a very rare, coffee table sized LBJ book. It was in a series of lectures from leading world figures in the Arthur K. Salomon Lecture Series. President Johnson has boldly signed "With best wishes, Lyndon Johnson." 19SGB) Here is a pristine and sleeved copy of "The Real War" by President Richard Nixon.  The Publisher is Warner Books.  This is a very perceptive and intuitive book on President Nixon's view of where the world is heading and where the balance of power will lie in the coming years.  President Nixon was uniquely qualified to write this book and it is a "must read" for the serious student of political history.  It also is a "must have" for the collector of Presidentially signed books.  The book carries the printed inscription "This copy has been signed by the Author".  Beneath that, Richard Nixon has signed boldly in blue fountain pen.  The signature is guaranteed authentic for life, and a written COA accompanies the book.  The condition of both the book and the sleeve is as new.

Nixon.  It offers a very revealing look into the life and times of one of the United State's most important political figures and President's.  The book has been boldly hand signed in blue fountain pen by President Nixon as follows.  "To Marvin Evelyn with best wishes from Richard Nixon 9-10-83".  The signature and inscription are guaranteed authentic for life, and a written COA accompanies the book.  The book was published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1978.  The condition of the book is excellent with only minor tears to the dust cover.  This will be an important addition to the Library of the Collector of signed Presidential Autobiographies.

35SGB) Here is a book by Vice President Al Gore entitled "Earth In The Balance." It was published in 1992 by Houghton Mifflin and elucidates his views of the present and future state of the environment. This copy was given to a very close family friend who's bookplate is on the signature page. He has penned a salutation and signature on the first page. It reads "For Ann, Best Regards, Al Gore." Al Gore III has also signed at the bottom of the first page. Also included is a letter as U. S. Senator to the same party who received the book. It speaks to the condition of his son who had just had microsurgery. The Vice President has signed and penned a salutation that reads "Thanks, Al & Tipper," and the question "Working Many Paintings?" His hand addressed envelope accompanies the letter. The book is in very good condition. The letter has some spotting and there are tears in the envelope.
